The not assuming you're above simple advice point is too true. It's a classic nerd snipe to avoid saying simple truths, because they seem too 'obvious' to mention, when in reality what's most obvious is often most fundamental

Yeah. I don’t agree with all the repeated advice you hear (I’ve been thinking for a while that I could do an article of a few popular phrases about work that make no sense), but the most important things are also fairly often the easiest to observe.

I think it should come as comforting if you’re in the right state of mind, really. Once you realize your problems aren’t all that special, it’s much easier to think about how to solve them.

While reading this article, I was very tempted to switch tabs and play a mindless game - mainly so that I wouldn't have to dwell on the hard truths about not wasting time.
